Preheat oven to 425 F. Using half the butter grease an oblong baking pan, measuring about 7 x 11 x 1 1/4 inches. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar together until they become thick and foamy. Still whisking, add the flour slowly, then the melted butter, milk, kirsch, and salt. Pour a quarter inch layer of batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 5 minutes, or until the batter just sets. Cover with the cherries and pour the remaining batter over the top. Dot the remaining butter over the top and bake for a further 30 minutes.
